Why Go Outside?

Pay attention

Pay attention to the way children carry themselves when they are in nature. As compared to when they are inside, children are more expressive and embodied, more playful, and even more alive. If you ask them to describe how they are feeling, they often use words like, “peaceful, satisfied, and calm.” Fresh air, outdoor smells, open spaces, varied scenery, the breeze, and even the chill contribute to a presence of mind that can lead to getting lost in the moment and lost in play. And if you pay close enough attention, you may find that this is even true for adults.
